“Readers of the November 2001 issue of Australian Review of Wines will know how big a fan I am of the Howard Park Riesling 2001. I have now seen it on four separate occasions and it has never failed to impress. The style has more in common with Porongurup than it does with either the Mount Barker floor or Frankland (although it is sourced predominantly from Mount Barker). A powerful, exaggerated Riesling with a perfume of lemon zest, mineral bath salts and magnolia leading to a concentrated, remarkably intense, almost pungent personality in the mouth with electric acidity running the length. Very backward now (do not serve it cold if you drink it young), it needs time in the cellar to put some flesh on its bones.”
