1999 Howard Park Riesling Tasting Notes

Composition: 100% Riesling
Region: Great Southern
Technical Notes:

The Mt Barker sub region of the Great Southern has forged a wonderful reputation in Australia and increasingly in the international wine markets as a producer of finely structured, well flavoured and long lived Rieslings. The Howard Park Riesling has been an important wine in establishing the position of the region for Riesling.

The 1999 Howard Park Riesling is the fourteenth in an illustrious line up and we are very proud to state its Mt Barker origins. The grapes were picked in early March in pristine condition, only free run juice was used to produce the wine to avoid extraction of any of the harsh phenolic compounds in the skins of the grapes. The fermentation was conducted at low temperature in order to help maintain the delicate aromatics and flavours.

Tasting Notes:

This wine is showing some secondary development characters. It continues to display typical Great Southern limey characters on the nose with a soft floral lift. The palate is a bit flat and lifeless however is showing some toasty, nutty nuances.
