Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

Wine Style Overview

This premium West Australian Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is the flagship wine from Howard Park. Since the first vintage in 1986, this wine has been a true reflection of the best fruit chosen from a handful of the oldest vineyards in Western Australia’s Margaret River region and the Mount Barker sub-region of the Great Southern. The Howard Park flagship wine is noted for its outstanding structural complexity and exceptional elegance. It combines the austere dusty earth and blackcurrant aromas from Mount Barker, with the classic rich fruit and chocolaty palette of Margaret River. Together they produce an elegantly balanced Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot with mature ripe tannins back up by quality French oak ensuring careful long term cellaring will realise this wines full potential. Rated under the “excellent” class of Langton’s Classifications, denoting “high performing wines of exquisite quality” alongside many top ratings from wine writers such as James Halliday and Robert Parker, the Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot guarantees great style, elegance and superb balance.

The 2005 Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon is deep red in colour with a youthful vibrancy.  The nose is filled with ripe cassis, roasted tomatoes, and hints of fresh Cuban cigars representing each distinctive component of the harmonious Great Southern and Margaret River blend.  On the palate, the Great Southern fruit parcels provide the structural backbone to the wine while the Margaret River component lifts the aromatics of the wine adding depth and complexity.  The palate is layered and textured with undertones of vanillin and savoury French oak, leading to a structured finish with elegance and poise.
