Howard Park Wines has triumphed on the international stage with their flagship wine recognised for the fourth year in a row at the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2009 held this year in Valencia, Spain.
The recently renamed 2005 Howard Park “Abecrombie” Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded a prestigious Gold Medal from 6289 entries at this year’s event.
Named after Jeff Burch’s great-grandfather Walter Abercrombie, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from the finest parcels of fruit from the Great Southern and Margaret River regions of Western Australia.
The harmonious blend of these two regions produces a wine exhibiting superb balance and weight with extended ageing potential.
Wine writer, Tyson Stelzer, recently rated the 2005 vintage 96 points, stating:
“...one of the greatest wines ever produced by this estate. It's a seamless assemblage of delightfully pure and persistent Great Southern and Margaret River fruit and will live for decades.”
Amy Burch, owner & Marketing Director of Howard Park Wines had this to say about the award:
“We are thrilled with this result. This Gold Medal is testament to the Howard Park philosophy of crafting balanced and elegant wines. We are quietly producing a wine that will go down as one of Western Australia’s best Cabernets.”
Since its first vintage in 1986, Howard Park’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon has received a number of awards including the Best Red Wine Trophy and Great Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2007, a Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge and a Blue Gold Medal at the Sydney International Wine Competition.
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2009 was held from the 25 to the 27 April, 2009 and received wines from over 54 producing countries. All wines were blind tasted by a panel of 250 wine experts including oenologists, sommeliers and journalists, who then unanimously selected the medal winning wines.
