Genevieve Stols

Margaret River Winemaker

Genevieve was born in South Africa and emigrated to Australia in 1996 settling in Perth, Western Australia. Following completion of her secondary studies, Genevieve undertook a Bachelor of Science (Viticulture & Oenology) degree at Curtin University in Western Australia.

During her degree, she completed her first vintage with Evans & Tate in Margaret River, Western Australia. Her first vintage spurred on her passion for winemaking, so much so that Genevieve decided to head overseas. She completed vintages in both the Northern & Southern Hemispheres working at Hugel in Alsace, France and Vergelegen in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2001 & 2002 respectively.

Following graduation from university, Genevieve joined the Hardy Wine Company as a cellar hand at Tintara in McLaren Vale, South Australia. By the end of vintage 2003, inspiration from fellow winemaking students at Tintara and a desire to seek further experience abroad led her to embark on yet another overseas vintage. Genevieve spent 3 months working at Lambert Bridge Winery in Sonoma, California.

At the end of the 2003 vintage in the Northern Hemisphere, Genevieve returned to Hardys Tintara as Winemaker and was involved in the creation of award winning, premium wines under the Eileen Hardy, Tintara, Starvedog Lane & Oomoo brands.

In 2007, Geneveive joined Howard Park Wines as our Margaret River Winemaker overseeing all production and working closely with Senior Winemaker Tony Davis. Genevieve’s passion and wide ranging experience has been well received and promises to lead the team forward in the years to come.

At only 28 years old, Genevieve Stols’ winemaking career has taken her across the globe and holds promise for an exciting future in the wine industry.

In her spare time Genevieve is also an avid beach dweller having been involved in a local Surf Lifesaving Club in South Africa at an early age, she then represented South Australia in surf boat rowing at a national level.  Since returning to Western Australia Genevieve has been acquainting herself with the swell spending her spare time surfing the local breaks.
