David W Burch
Sales & Marketing
David W Burch is the son of Jeff and Amy Burch and continues the commitment to this family-owned and operated Winery. As a child David accompanied his father on Business trips to Asia, and first started working in his Dads packaging business at the age of 11, and to this day the memories are so clear that whenever he steps in a factory it takes him right back to southeast Asia where his first business training began.
David has since embarked on a journey of personal discovery that took him around the world – to India, Nepal, and Tibet to study with Tibetan Buddhist lamas and teachers; to all over Europe where he had the chance to explore the local wines and cuisine.
His studies in international business, epistemology and philosophy have given David a unique perspective on Howard Park Wineries and its role in the world, and he has a real drive for making quality wines available to the general public as well as exploring organic and unusual vintages for the boutique market. David’s particular skill lies in creative marketing to raise the company’s profile on the Australian and international stage, and striking and unique naming and label designs.
Although very much an individual, David is acutely aware of his responsibility to the business and the family. In 1996 he was involved in the planting of the family’s first vines, on their property at Margaret River; and the same year completed his first vintage at Howard Park’s Denmark winery at the age of 14. Having exposure working in multiple areas of the business throughout the years from winemaking, viticulture, running dispatch, assisting at cellar door, PR and events, to join full time heading regional sales in 2006, to helping in setting up the online side of the business. He hopes to bring the same degree of cutting-edge innovation to every aspect of the company in the coming decades. In order to continue growing, it is vital to be contemporary. David’s vision is not only to put Howard Park at the forefront of the industry in the 21st century, but when the time comes to be able to pass on to future generations a flourishing business even stronger than it was when he inherited it.
